Argentine Malbec and Torrontées
Argentine Malbec is one of the country's most iconic wines and is appreciated worldwide for its unique character. Originally from the southwest of France, it has found in Argentina, especially in the Mendoza region, the perfect terroir to express itself at its best.
Torrontés de Salta is one of the most iconic and surprising white wines of Argentina. Produced mainly in the province of Salta, in the north of the country, at altitudes exceeding 1,700 metres above sea level of the sea, it is considered the Argentine white wine par excellence.
Malbec's main region
- Mendoza, especially Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley, where the altitude, dry, sunny climate and stony soils produce grapes of the highest quality.
- Excellent Malbecs can also be found in Salta (with vineyards at very high altitudes) and in Patagonia.
Main region of Torrontes
- Salta, especially in the area of Cafayate, which is located over 1,700 meters above sea level.
Cafayate is considered the birthplace of the best Torrontés of Argentina thanks to its dry climate, the very marked temperature range between day and night and the sandy and well-drained soils that favor aromatic, fresh white wines with great personality. - Torrontés is also grown in Mendoza, La Rioja and San Juan,
Characteristics of Argentine Malbec
- Color: Intense and brilliant purple red.
- Aromas: Black fruits such as plum, blackberry and black cherry; floral notes (violet); and, if aged in barrel, notes of vanilla, chocolate, coffee or leather.
- Taste: Soft yet structured on the palate, with sweet, rounded tannins, balanced acidity and a lingering finish. It can be fruity and juicy or more complex depending on the style.
- Pairings: Perfect with red meat, grilled meats, empanadas, pasta with rich sauces and mature cheeses.
Characteristics of Torrontes de Salta
- Colour: straw yellow with greenish highlights.
- Aromas: aromatic, intense and floral. Notes of white flowers, jasmine, roses and orange blossom, accompanied by fruity hints of white peach, pear and citrus.
- Taste: fresh, balanced and persistent. In the mouth it is soft, with a pleasant acidity and an aromatic finish that recalls the olfactory bouquet.
- Pairings: Perfect with fish dishes, seafood, Asian cuisine, fresh appetizers and delicate cheeses. Also excellent as an aperitif.
